ISSUES IN MODELLING

• Emergence of Performance Based Codes has accelerated the migration of mathematical models from the laboratory to the design desk.

• However, FSE’s are not experts in modelling techniques.

• Ideally, shouldn’t have to be experts in modelling.

• MUST be expert in the reliable use of modelling tools!!

• There are 5 key issues concerning the use of models in FSE:

(1) Model Capabilities,

(2) Ease of Use,

(3) Speed AND Efficiency,

(4) Validation and,

(5) Education.
