Thank you for your interest in our study. Questionnaire surveys and interviews with survivors and emergency personnel will begin in June 2010. In the meantime, you can provide us with some details of the incident and an email address/telephone number so we can contact you nearer the time (see registration instructions below. N.B. Personal details provided now will not be linked to any subsequent details you provide in the questionnaire). Alternatively, you can email the UK researcher Dr Lynn Hulse directly (L.Hulse@gre.ac.uk), or simply check back at this website for updates.

Participant Registration - UK FIRES

Please register today if you are…

…a firefighter who has attended fires and/or other emergencies and wish to share your experience.

... a member of the public who has survived fire in your home or neighbouring building, or at a hospital or hotel, and wish to share your experience.

…a member of staff at a hospital or hotel who has been involved in the evacuation of such a building due to fire and wish to share your experience.

To be able to compare UK findings with those from the other countries included in the BeSeCu project, we must currently focus our study on the following:

  1. Fires that occurred since January 2000.
  2. Fires where there were 2 or more people inside the building.
  3. Fires that the emergency services attended and one or more buildings were evacuated.
  4. If a domestic fire, only in houses or flats (i.e. not care homes, or temporary residences such as caravans); if a hospital or hotel, only multi-storey buildings.
  5. Participants who are 18 years old or more.
  6. Participants who were born in or have moved to the UK who are reasonably fluent in spoken and written English.
  7. First-hand accounts (i.e. from the people who were in the incident).

If your experience matches the above criteria and you would like to take part, please complete the participant registration form by clicking the link below. After you submit the form, you will receive an automated e-mail confirming your registration. Registration is voluntary and confidential. Your contact details will not be passed onto anyone or any organisation outside the BeSeCu research team. You are free to withdraw from the study at any time; you do not have to give a reason. In such a case, any information you have given will be erased.
