CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue of the Elsevier Journal
Safety Science
on
Evacuation and Pedestrian Dynamics

Guest Editor: Professor Ed Galea, FSEG, University of Greenwich
Safety Science

A special issue of the journal Safety Science with a focus on evacuation and pedestrian dynamics is planned for publication before the end of 2010.

The modelling of evacuation and pedestrian dynamics has increased significantly over the past 10 years, reflecting the growing prominence of performance-based safety codes globally and the desire to achieve ever higher levels of safety, security, efficiency and comfort in pedestrian systems. The dual need for relevant data to base a rigorous theoretical framework for the development and validation of these models has in turn driven interest in experimental human factors research.

The special issue will provide an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present the most recent developments in evacuation and pedestrian dynamics research. The focus of the issue is intentionally broad, covering:

  • evacuation and pedestrian dynamics,
  • modelling and experimental research,
  • safety, security and circulation applications,
  • within the built, urban, maritime, aviation and rail environments.
