Help us to improve your safety

People’s safety in buildings, transport systems and other structures around the world is of paramount importance. In order to improve public safety, we need to understand how people behave when faced with an emergency, e.g. a fire, flood, terrorist attack. You can help us in this task by taking part in our EU-funded international research project, BeSeCu.

The BeSeCu project is a cross-cultural study of how survivors and emergency responders think, feel and act in an emergency. Findings will be used to better tailor emergency evacuation procedures and communications. The Fire Safety Engineering Group of the University of Greenwich is the UK partner in project BeSeCu. We will be focusing on four types of emergency situation within the UK: serious domestic fires; fires in hospitals or hotels; floods; and the 7/7 terrorist bombings.

Have you survived one of these incidents? Or are you a fire fighter who wants to share their professional experiences and observations? We want to understand:

HOW you and others responded to the emergency

WHAT influenced your responses

WHETHER you were able to evacuate the scene easily
